Closure of the western section of Metro Line 6 due to construction
From May 31 to September 12, the western section of Line 6 of the Madrid Metro will be closed for construction. This shutdown marks the beginning of a historic transformation: Line 6 will become the first fully driverless line in the metro network.
The works include the renovation of over 23 kilometers of track, the installation of platform screen doors at all stations, and the implementation of an automated system that will increase train frequency to every two minutes, improving capacity by 17% and enhancing passenger safety.
Service will be suspended between Moncloa and Méndez Álvaro, affecting key stations such as Avenida de América, Príncipe Pío, Puerta del Ángel, Oporto, Legazpi, and Plaza Elíptica, among others.
To ease mobility during this period, free replacement bus lines have been introduced, and passengers are encouraged to use alternative metro routes:
-
From Legazpi to Moncloa, take Line 3.
-
From Oporto to Callao, use Line 5.
-
From Príncipe Pío to Plaza de España, take Line 10.
In addition, a map with recommended alternative routes is available on the official Metro de Madrid website—particularly helpful for students who need to travel during the 2025 university entrance exam (PAU) period.
